Big news for MonsterCon!

We are yet again on the move!

(Originally posted to Facebook: July 30, 2014)

For the last 2 years, we have hosted MonsterCon in Greenville County. Despite two consecutive shows that were a success, MonsterCon is still largely ignored by local government and most businesses that stand to benefit from our presence there. While many have seen great reward as a result of our business, we have been left in a state of recovery following both shows. These types of events require government support to thrive, as well as local business support.

A change is necessary following this year, to a location that will provide better opportunity for MonsterCon to sustain itself. This unfortunately means MonsterCon will not be returning to Greenville for 2015. Preservation of MonsterCon as a company is our top concern, and a better deal is now an option.

If you have been following the developments regarding MonsterCon's Con Cafe, you have seen a glimpse of where we are going. The cafe is hosted in the lobby of Orchard Place in Gaffney, SC, a facility with close to 50,000 sq feet of available function space. This is the same facility we are using for Superhero Thanksgiving (Codename: Gobblecon) this coming November.

This facility also allows for some of the things our fans have been asking for. Dedicated panel and gaming areas are first on the list. Dealer areas can also be divided from general function space, allowing full closure of those areas at specified times. Functionality considered, this building is a much better fit for what we offer.

In addition, we fully control food service at this location, which will allow us to offer lower ticket prices in advance of the shows. Additional options regarding food trucks are also now possible.

We have also heard the requests for a dealer load-in day on the day before the show. This is also possible with the new facility, and will be an option for those of you with large spaces that require more time. The dealer room hours will be open on Thursday night for setup, with active hours to remain Friday - Sunday. Other activities such as gaming, some panels, and film screenings will begin on Thursday evening in other parts of the facility, which means we are becoming a 4 day event.

Ease of access is another huge benefit to this location. If you can find Interstate 85, you can find us. There will be no more need to travel through any town looking for us. The facility is right beside the interstate.

Tentative dates for MonsterCon 2015 have also been decided. We are looking at July 23-26, 2015. We expect to confirm these dates within the next 2 weeks.

We would like to say thank you to Richard's Comics & Collectables, Timmons Arena and Furman University, Sleep Inn of Travelers Rest, and Baymont Inn of Greenville for the support your businesses have shown. Without you, none of this would have ever been possible.

In addition, we would also like to thank all of the press, because you have helped us grow too. There are way too many of you to list. Hopefully you will also visit us at our new home.

Finally, a word to our fans. You are the heart and soul of this event, and we sincerely hope you all like the changes. We hope to offer you all a better quality experience with the new venue.

Sincerely,

D. Shane Trotter
